BeautyGalaxy has specialized in flat irons for more than 7 years. Through these years we have seen many changes in the flat irons that are being used today. Today there are many different types of irons on the market however; the performance of these irons always boils down to the heat generated and how well these irons can maintain that heat during usage.
Every iron that we sell on our site goes through our own testing. This testing includes checking the max heat, heat recovery, and professional feedback. We rank each area with a star system, 5 stars being the best.
Max Heat:
All irons advertise a max heat, usually 410 to 450 degrees F. We use a laser heat checker to determine the “actual” max heat of the iron. This rating determines how accurate the advertised max heat is compared to the actual max heat.
Heat Recovery:
Possibly the most important test we do on the irons. Heat recovery is the time it takes an iron to regain heat after it passes down the hair. Heat recovery is important to keep the plates consistent throughout usage. An iron with weak heat recovery will show bad results and will take longer to straighten the hair. To test this recovery time, we take a heat measurement at the irons max setting, then we make a pass down 18 inches of hair, then we time how long it take the iron to regain the original temperature.
Heat Distribution:
It is very important for the heat on the plates to be evenly
distributed. Lower quality irons, which use weaker heaters, and
cheaper plates, will have more "cold spots" on the plate
surface. Cold spots reduce iron performance. We rank based
upon a simple test we conduct. We shoot a laser temperature gun on
various parts of the plate to rate the plate consistency.
Professional Feedback:
Although every iron looks and is used the same, our last test is to get feedback from top hair stylists. This rating is based upon feedback from our sponsored hair salons and stylists.
Warranty:
The warranty of your product is most likely the one thing consumers
fail to consider when deciding which iron they want to go with.
Warranty policies will vary from one brand to the other and it should be a
more important factor in your decision. We rank the warranty based
upon our experience with the various brands and also the feedback we get
from previous customers. Issues include but are not limited too, the
simplicity of getting repairs done, the time it takes to get your product
back, and mainly how long the warranty is good for.
